This iconic Christchurch building situated on the banks of the Avon River has hosted royalty, heads of state and been the stage for many of the world’s leading performing artists. But the Christchurch Town Hall for Performing Arts is far more than a world-class performance venue. It is also a multi-functional meeting and events facility and a dramatic venue for special events.
At its meeting on 22 November 2012, the Christchurch City Council voted unanimously on the motion to retain the Christchurch Town Hall and, as agreed in the 2012 draft annual plan, to repair the existing facility to 100% of New Building Standard.
In November 2014 invitations to tender for the rebuild were issued.
